ATTEMPTED BURGLARY AND RESULTANT DAMAGES CLAIM

ASSESSMENT

Black Bird Construction was contacted by the client’s insurance company to assess and conduct repair work. An assessment took place at the client’s property in Kenilworth, where various items were inspected and a quotation was then generated and accepted by the insurer and client. Below is a breakdown of what transpired during the claim and excerpts of the assessor’s findings have been included as a means to explain the various building work required to repair the damages. REPORT

Damages:

The damages include a badly wedged set of doors. The doors have been damaged by a sharp object such as a screwdriver. A sharp, narrow object was used to try to force the door open. The gate in front of the door was slightly damaged in the same way using the same process. The burglar who attempted to break into the property has caused quite a bit of damage to the existing double doors. Due to how badly the doors have been damaged, the only way to repair the doors quickly without leaving the property vulnerable is to remove the existing doors and fit new doors to the entranceway immediately after the damaged doors have been removed.

Repairs:

There are 2 ways I can see to repair the existing doors. Besides replacing the doors as mentioned above (this is the best way) the other method would be to apply a cover strip or beading to the doors where they have been damaged. This will be a lot more cost effective but will ultimately mean that the doors will still be damaged underneath the beading. I asked the tenant a couple of questions and she explained that was a solution that was presented to her by a contractor. His quotation was attached to your previous email.
